Karla Schickele is a songwriter, singer, and bassist.
She has recorded and performed widely as a member of the indie rock bands Ida, beekeeper, and k. Other artists she has appeared with include Michael Hurley, The Naysayer, The Good Ms. Padgett, Low, and Mylo Choy-Sutton.
Karla is currently working with her father, composer and musical satirist Peter Schickele, on a memoir of his musical life, and other writing projects.
Karla co-founded New York City’s first girls rock camp, Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls. She served as the organization’s Executive Director for more than a decade. She is also a co-founder of the Brooklyn Outlaw Chorus.
Karla was born and raised in New York City. She lives in Brooklyn with her partner, photographer Kate Milford, and their two children.
