Karla Schickele is a New York City musician, writer, and producer.
She has enjoyed a versatile career as a songwriter, singer, and bassist. She plays in the indie rock band Ida, which did a national tour in 2025 in support of the 25th anniversary reissue by Numero Group of the band’s album “Will You Find Me.” In the 90’s, with her brother, composer/guitarist Matthew Schickele, she formed beekeeper (now known as beekeepernyc), which released a full-length album, Ostrich, on Southern Records. Her band, k., released three albums on Tiger Style Records. Her newest project is Penny Guitar, an acoustic duo with her cousin, Train Schickele.
Karla is currently working on a memoir about her father, the late composer and musical satirist Peter Schickele. She produces concerts of his folk, pop, and classical music.
Karla co-founded the Brooklyn Outlaw Chorus and Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls.
She lives in Brooklyn with her partner, photographer Kate Milford, and their two children.
